What set the Pogues apart from any number of other energetic Irish traditional bands was the sheer physical force of their performances, the punky swagger of their personalities, and Shane MacGowan's considerable gifts as a songwriter. Unfortunately, none of these qualities comes through very clearly on their first album, Red Roses for daytancobahrelampostbumhackliftdure.xyzinfo the Pogues are in good form here, the production.

This item: Red Roses For Me by The Pogues Audio CD £ In stock. Although my favourite pogues songs are not on this album, as a full album Red Roses is possibly the best. The punk influence is most evident here and their raucous drunken energy is at its most passionate without feeling contrived as some of the later party tunes did /5(68).

Overview. Red Roses for Me is filled with traditional Irish music performed with punk influences. The band's approach of mixing traditional songs and ballads with frontman Shane MacGowan's "gutter hymns" about drinking, fighting and sex was innovative at the time. The title "Red Roses for Me" is the name of a play by Seán O'Casey, though his works do not show any direct influence upon the band.
