   "Summer in the City" is more of a sampler of the Lovin' Spoonful that a solid hits collection, although if you were just going to pick ten songs by the peppy pop/rock/folk group of the Sixties it is hard to argue with what you find here/5(11).

   Although it sports the same amount of tracks (26) as Rhino's Anthology, up to now the last word in comprehensive Spoonful compilations, the issue of the umpteenth collection from this short-lived '60s band gets the nod over all others. Taken from the original first-generation masters, apparently for the first time, the sound quality -- with a crispness and definition previously.

   History. With only five originals on the band's debut release, Do You Believe in Magic, Daydream featured much more songwriting by Lovin' Spoonful co-founder singer and vocalist John Sebastian, who either wrote or co-wrote all but one of the songs on this release. Daydream was re-released on CD in by Buddah Records and included five bonus tracks.
